Will it be the end? or a new beginning for Tiktok Shop US?

Since Tiktok Shop launcher in September 2023 it had faced so many struggles. As a new law passed on April 2024 that was signed by the ruling US President Joe Biden, Tiktok has to changed the ownership to non - Chinese company by January 19th 2025 or they have to shut down in the US. Tiktok has appealed several times to convince the court that they will not miss-used 170 million US citizens data and already invest quite big money to secure it. However it seems like the appeals were unsuccessful and the clock is still ticking. Based on many resource, the Tiktok Shop USA offices and employees still work as usual and are not showing signs that they will close any time soon.

This is not the first time Tiktok Shop faced governmental barrier. On 2023 Tiktok Shop Indonesia was also shut down due to a law passed by Trade Ministry on September 26th (Peraturan Menteri Perdagangan No 31 Tahun 2023) that states social media can not perform any trade process and can only be used to promote or bring traffic to other official e-commerce. Therefore Tiktok Shop Indonesia was shutdown on October 4th 2023. Based on many resources the urgency of the law was because the social commerce was hampering the small - medium - local businesses and need to be shutdown, which is very questioned reason and hard to check how many percent of that statement is true. Tiktok then solve this issue because they don't want to loose Indonesian market by integrating the app to an existing e-commerce called Tokopedia. This action has activated Tiktok Shop Indonesian again just in time for double date 12.12 campaign.
